more was obviously very well cared for over all these years though. The pads look to be in pretty nice condition, although they are old, and since we do not play we could not test the saxophone. It has not been polished, and looks like it will really shine up nicely. The quality storage case is original to the saxophone, and is signed Holton on the top The original silver plate finish is in pretty nice condition as well, with a little expected wear on a few of the keys. It had a very nice Holton mouthpiece inside the little compartment in the case. I do not see any dents or dings" which is quite amazing" for a Vintage saxophone. This saxophone was discovered tucked away in the estat,e in very nice, all original condition. This beautiful vintage Holton wonderfully captures the era when the saxophone transformed from a novelty, to the ultimate American virtuoso instrument. This Holton was named after the great saxophone virtuoso of the early 20th century, whose advanced techniques included exhilarating double and triple tonguing, slap tonguing, flutter tonguing, growls, and wild pitch bends. The highly unusual keywork, including cleverly designed E-flat and G-flat trills, and the double low C, entices serious players and collectors alike. The polished silver keys pop against the matte silver body, and the gold wash bell still retains a honey-colored hue.
Additionally, there is enough versatility in the horn to allow a more modern sound if the player so chooses, and her intonation is surprisingly accommodating. more tone is reminiscent of the 1920's era recordings that popularized the saxophone as an iconic American instrument. This nearly 100 year old Holton is in superb condition and has just benefited from a fresh overhaul.
